Poetry Out Loud

Amanda Fernandez does a great job reciting the poem, "Unknown Girl in the Maternity World" by Anne Sexton. Her articulation was amazingly clear and crisp. And her understanding of the poem was almost to the point where she would relate. She accomplished the challenge of shifting moods through out the poem well, also enhanced by a strong, confident stage presence. Amanda also chose lengthy poem and glided through it without any stumbles or mistakes. I was very impressed.

She really conveyed the meaning of the poem well to the audience. A story about a single mom who considered abandoning her baby. The way she got angry when the poem talked about how annoying the doctors were, asking questions and such, the dramatization was perfect. At the moment when he almost cried show how she loved the baby, and how it would be difficult for her to leave it, when all she could do was call it her sin. Her voice changing tones made the mood clear to the audience, and switching mood to mood isn't easy. Overall i give Amanda F. an overall score of 11.5:)

Mockingbird Motif

mo⋅tif

[moh-teef]

–noun
a recurring subject, theme, idea, etc., esp. in a literary artistic, or musical work.

In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper lee uses different character to exemplify a :mockingbird motif". Each character represents a different theme too; racism, losing innocence/growing up, bravery, etc... One example of a motif is Tom Robinson. He represents the mockingbird and the theme of racism.

Tom Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Though he was innocent, the racist jury proved him guilty. no matter what evidence was shown, there was no way Tom Robinson would get away without any punishment. people in Maycomb wanted this man dead. When he tried to escape jail, a citizen of Maycomb County shot him dead. Everyone thought it was "typical" for a black man to try and escape jail. Therefore, Tom Robsinson exemplifies Racism and a mockingbird in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.

Life Lessons;

My dad would always tell me to clean my room as I was younger, and still to this day. I never would agree with him saying i needed to clean my room. I always thought that it was MY room and he would never see it, so why would it matter? I still think that's true a bit now;) In response he would preach, "a dirty room mean's a dirty life". I know a little cheesy, but it made me stop, and think for a bit.

Why would I want to have a dirty life? I thought it would be embarrassing when you have friends over, and you room is dirty. It makes you look like you don't care about your things at all. Recently, I've started to keep my room cleaner, for longer. I figured its easier to put things away instantly, rather than throwing it on a chair or on the floor and have it pile up over time. Which ends up leading to a bigger cleaning session in the end. As a result, my life is now clean:)

Your best Friend.

My Sister:

There is so much to say about her. She's is definitely my best friend, and yet family. She knows every little thing about me, and we are so close. Unlike other sisters who often despise each other, were the total opposite. She has a personalty of her own, very outgoing and unique. Loves music, and adds in some dancing as well. We have the same smile and laugh, she has brown eyes and short curly dark hair. She often does funny imitations and randomly talks in different accents. She's a real jokster according to all my friends. And cares a lot about others well being and feelings. She can be complicated at times, but you learn to love her!

Tashi is a real character. She's artistic, musical and athletic, pretty much the whole package. I cant think of one person who doesn't get trapped in her spell on people. She can make your day with just one flash of her smile, and make you laugh till your stomach hurts. I would describe her as a real altruist at times. Her concerns for others really make her a passionate, loving person. But that's just me..:)
